CD-R SYSTEMS
Yamaha | Ricoh
Creative Digital Research | Adaptec Software Products Group | Astarte
President Roy Worthington talks about Octave Systems:
"Our company is thirteen years old as a separate California Corporation. We have
three main departments. One that sells (in Silicon Valley only) PCs that we
assemble. Another that resells Sun workstation modules (mostly in the US.) The
third is to do with the Internet. Our CD Recorder products sales over the web are world wide. Today, for instance, we are shipping to Iceland, Uraguay and France as well as within the US. We achieve these sales by putting tremendous emphasis on response and service."
"As an example, a couple of weeks ago we got a phone call from Norway (it was
2:30 a.m. there.) They wanted to buy a copy of Adaptec's EasyCD Pro 95 NOW. By now they meant immediately! So we zipped the files and attached them to two emails (one for each of two disks). By the time we checked their credit card validity we were ready to send the files. They called back ninety
seconds later and told us the files had arrived. Total transaction time: less than
twenty minutes from the get go. Of course we sent the disks and manuals by
FedEx and they got there in three days."
INTERNET CAMERA DEVELOPMENT
Roy describes this aspect of Octave, too:
"Another facet of our Internet business is our web camera development. We
are producing web camera sites that can handle from one to four cameras. Our system is totally automated with no keyboard or monitor (once set up). Web Cameras can be a great draw to web sites. Problem we had with one site was how to get snapped pictures to our web server (11 miles away). We solved the problem by using a wireless modem system (this is currently in the Bay Area only)."
One site is at the San Jose Fairmont hotel.
"The last item in the list is a view of Silicon Valley from our rooftop"
